Knappenweg in Kühtai-Ochsengarten-Hochoetz
The Knappenweg transports hikers to a landscape which could not possibly be any more authentic. Swiss stone pine forests among steeply soaring mountains alternate with rare, high alpine plants. In summer, sheep inhabit the entire region. But that was not always the case.
Some 350 years ago, the sledgehammers and irons of the mountain people pounded in the Wörgetal valley. At an altitude of around 2500m up to 450 squires dug for copper pyrite, blue lead and pyrite. With oxen and wooden sleds, the ore was transported to the edge of the valley, whre the stamping mill was located. After the base stone was separated, the men would carry the ore on their shoulders to the valley.
